WHAT IS MESOTHELIOMA?

A tumour of the tissue that lines the lungs, stomach, heart and other organs.

CAUSES OF MESOTHELIOMA

This very rare cancerous disease is caused by inhaling ASBESTOS  particles. In  most cases, mesothalioma symptoms will not appear in an individual exposed to asbestos until many years after the exposure has ocurred. 

TYPES OF MESOTHELIOMA:

THERE ARE FOUR TYPES OF MESOTHELIOMA BASED ON WHERE IT DEVELOPED FIRST:

1) PLEURAL(LUNGS)

2) PERITONEAL(ABDOMEN)

3) PERICARDIAL(HEART)

4) TESTICULAR

IN ADDITION TO THIS MESOTHELIOMA CAN ALSO BE CATEGORIZED BASED ON CELL TYPE- epithelioid, sarcomatoid, or biphasic-and according to malignancy.

TREATMENT :

THERE IS NO CURE FOR MESOTHELIOMA, THOUGH THE PROGNOSIS HAVE BEEN SLOWLY IMPROVED OVER THE YEARS. MALGINANT  MESOTHELIOMA IS EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE AND HAS LONG LATENCY PERIOD, WHICH MEANS IT USUALLY STAYS UNDECTED UNTIL THE CANCER HAS REACHED ADVANCED STATE.

Treatment can help, but this condition can't be cured

Requires a medical diagnosis

Lab tests or imaging always required

Cancerous (malignant) mesothelioma is the most common form, usually affecting the lungs.

A cough, chest pain and shortness of breath are symptoms.

Treatment may include surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Supportive treatments can relieve symptoms.

SYMPTOMS:

1) shortness of breath

2) pain and tightness in the chest

3) night sweat and fear

4) difficulty in swallowing

5)coughing up blood(hemoptysis)

6) fluid build up in chest

7)abdominal pain

8) fatigue
